Day 1: Arrival and Exploration
Visitor Center and Starved Rock Trail
Start your visit at the Starved Rock Visitor Center to pick up maps and explore the informative exhibits. Then, embark on the Starved Rock Trail, a 0.5-mile hike that offers stunning views of the Illinois River and the park’s iconic sandstone formations.
Lover’s Leap to French Canyon Loop
Follow the signs to Lover’s Leap and begin the Lover’s Leap to French Canyon Loop, a 4-mile roundtrip hike that takes you through several canyons, including Wildcat Canyon and French Canyon. Along the way, you’ll witness the park’s stunning waterfalls.
St. Louis Canyon
Venture to St. Louis Canyon, which features a 60-foot waterfall. You can access this canyon by keeping your car where it is and heading west towards Aurora Canyon.

End your day by dining at the Lodge Restaurant, which is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Café is also open daily for breakfast and lunch, providing you with a variety of dining options.

Start your day with a guided hike or explore the local area on your own. The guided hike will provide you with the opportunity to learn about the history of the Lodge and the surrounding area.
Canal Boat Tour
Take a canal boat tour on the Illinois & Michigan Canal. The Captain’s I&M Canal Tour is a unique mule-pulled boat ride that will transport you back to 1848.
Exploring Utica
Before departing, explore the charming town of Utica. Visit Clarks Run Antiques, August Hill Winery, and grab a bite to eat at Cajun Connection.
